The TD Free Fare Zone

Beginning this month, our free fare zone along 7 Avenue downtown has a new name. We’ve entered into a five-year agreement with TD Bank Group (TD) to sponsor the TD Free Fare Zone.

“We’re pleased to strike this partnership to create the TD Free Fare Zone,” said Mayor Jyoti Gondek. “Calgary is leading Canada as this is the first time a transit agency has worked with a sponsor to rename a section of its network. We are finding innovative revenue sources to support our operational costs while we look to expand transit service and improve reliability."

This sponsorship agreement will provide TD a prominent footprint in the downtown core, while bringing in additional non-fare revenue for Calgary Transit. Other sources of non-fare revenue include reserved parking fees and advertising revenues.

“At TD, we recognize the importance of connected communities and the role they play in helping Calgarians participate and be included in all that our city has to offer,” said Robert Ghazal, Senior Vice President, Branch Banking, Prairie Region. “The CTrain and the TD Free Fare Zone bring people together from across the city for shared experiences, whether it be for work, leisure, or tourism.”

TD was selected after a Request for Information (RFI) for renaming the free fare zone was released in 2021.

You’ll notice visual changes to stations in the TD Free Fare Zone starting in the new year, including banners and signage.
