Regular Adult and Youth Monthly Passes

Where to request a refund

Paper Adult or Youth Monthly Passes:

Electronic (My Fare) Adult or Youth My Fare Passes:

Note, refunds are issued to the original method of payment only.

Refund eligibility (based on timing)

Refund eligibility depends on when the refund is requested:

  • Before the first day of the month of validity
    • A full refund is available, less a $10 administration fee.
  • From the 1st of the month (inclusive)
    • Refunds are prorated using Calgary Transit’s standard refund calculation, plus a $10 administration fee. See below for pass-specific calculation details.

How prorated refunds are calculated

When a refund is prorated, Calgary Transit deducts:

  • Depending on pass type, the value of two Adult or Youth single trips per day, and
  • A $10 administration fee.

Refund calculations use a standardized methodology and do not reflect actual or individual trip usage.

Pass-specific calculation details

Paper Monthly Passes

  • With proof of purchase (receipt) showing the pass was purchased during the current month:
    • Days are counted from the date of purchase to the date the refund is requested, inclusive.
  • Without proof of purchase, or if the pass was purchased before the month of validity:
    • Days are counted from the first day of the month of validity to the date the refund is requested, inclusive.

If the pass was bought before the month starts and was purchased in error, it can be refunded with a $10 administration fee, as long as another pass for the same month was bought. If the pass was bought during the active month, the refund will be based on a prorated usage fee.

No refunds are available on or after the 15th day of the month, regardless of whether the pass was used.

Paper passes must be returned in their original condition and may be refused if altered, damaged, or defaced.

Electronic (My Fare) Monthly Passes

Refunds are calculated by counting days from:

  • The date the pass was purchased for the valid month, or
  • The first day of the month if the pass was purchased earlier,

up to and including the last recorded day of pass use.

Example:

If you purchased the pass on the 2nd of the month and requested a refund on the 5th, but the pass shows activity through to the 10th, the refund will be calculated from the 2nd up to and including the 10th.

Additional conditions:

  • If the pass has not been activated and shows no recorded activity, no trip value is deducted.
  • If a pass is purchased in error and the correct pass is subsequently purchased for the same month, the original pass can be refunded, less the $10 administration fee.
  • You can request a refund for an unused pass anytime during the month it is valid.
  • Refunds are only available during the month the pass is valid.

Refund example (Adult Monthly Pass)

  • Adult Monthly Pass price: $126.00
  • Adult single fare: $4.00
  • Standard refund calculation: 2 trips per day × $4.00 = $8.00 per day

Example scenario, paper pass:

  • Refund requested on the 5th of the month
  • Date of purchase was the 2nd of the month (assuming with proof of purchase)
  • Days counted: 4 days
  • Trip value deducted: 4 days × $8.00 = $32.00
  • Administration fee: $10.00
  • Refund amount:
    • $126.00 - $32.00 - $10.00 = $84.00 refunded

Other fare products

  • Low Income Transit Pass and Senior Citizen Annual Pass are not eligible for refund, exchange, or credit.
  • All other fare products are non-refundable.
