Haysboro Storage Facility Expansion

Haysboro LRV facility

We’re expanding our Haysboro Storage Facility, which we use to store light rail vehicles (LRVs).

We park and service our four-car trains at Haysboro when they’re not out on the Red Line during CTrain operating hours. (Anderson Garage, our other Red Line CTrain storage and service facility, can only handle three-car trains).

Opened in 1984 to support three-car light rail transit service, Haysboro has capacity to house 60 LRVs with only 30 stored indoors.

The expansion will better support four-car trains, increasing total storage capacity to 76 LRVs, of which 58 LRVs can be stored indoors. Indoor storage will prolong vehicle lifespans and improve service reliability and efficiency.

Specific facility updates will include:

  • Significant track and building extension to accommodate four-car train storage
  • Roof-top solar photovoltaics panels that convert sunlight into electricity
  • Upgraded traction power equipment
  • New operator facilities
  • Improved natural and facility lighting
  • New exterior appearance

Facility construction began January 2024 with completion slated for fall 2025.

With four-car train storage unavailable at Haysboro during construction, we’re limited to using three-car (versus four-car) trains on the Red Line. To minimize service impact on our customers, our Red Line CTrain service March 2024 until fall 2025 features frequent three-car service, which results in similar capacity to less frequent four-car trains.
