Eligibility and how to apply
Calgary Transit Access (CTA) is a specialized, shared ride, door-to-door public transportation service for Calgarians who are unable to use Calgary Transit’s buses and CTrains. It offers a supportive option for those who require additional assistance getting where they need to go due to their disability.

Eligibility for CTA
Considerations for determining eligibility:
- Ages 13 and older: When a person’s disability prevents their use of Calgary Transit’s buses and CTrains.
- Ages 12 and under: When a person’s disability prevents their use of Calgary Transit’s buses and CTrains even while accompanied by a responsible caregiver.
- Other transportation options an individual has (such as driving).
Criteria not used for determining eligibility:
- Age, income, language barriers, fear of or unfamiliarity with using Calgary Transit, or length of trip time.
- Medical professional recommendation.
Other factors to consider:
- All Calgary Transit buses and CTrains are wheelchair accessible.
- Circumstances vary from person to person
- An in-person interview (including functional assessments) is required for all applicants. Transportation to this interview is not provided.
Application process for new customers
- Review the eligibility requirements above.
- Fill out parts A-F of the Application Form (PDF). To request an application form by mail, call 403-537-7770.
- Have a medical professional fill out part G (pages 7-8).
- Submit your application:

- Once we have received and reviewed your application, we will either:
- Call you to schedule an in-person interview, (including functional assessments) and determine if you meet eligibility requirements; or
- Let you know that your application has been denied based on the information provided.
- The time between application submission and phone call varies, but typically takes 5-10 business days.
- Following the in-person interview, we will notify you at the end of the interview or by phone within 5 business days whether your application has been approved.

In-person interviews are conducted at locations across Calgary. Your location preference will be noted when we call you to schedule the interview.

Renewals (previously approved customers)
About 30 days before your eligibility expires, you’ll receive a letter in the mail with the form you need to complete to renew your CTA service. Additional medical information will not be required for renewal unless your ability to use Calgary Transit may improve over time.
Once we receive and review your completed forms, we’ll call you to talk about the next steps.
Some customers may need to complete an interview as part of the renewal process and some may not, depending on individual situation. Eligibility after renewal is not guaranteed in all cases.
Application process for out-of-town visitors
Calgary Transit Access (CTA) offers temporary service for visitors who use accessible transit in their home city. While all of Calgary Transit’s regular buses and CTrains are accessible, you might still qualify for temporary CTA service for up to 30 days.
